BEAUTIFUL, HISTORIC 15th C IRISH CASTLE
An incredible example of an authentic and medieval Irish castle dating back to the late 1400′s – before America was even ‘discovered’ – and is one of the last remaining inhabitable medieval castles left standing in Ireland. Prepare to be entranced as the impact of this rare and authentic castle’s historic appeal and significance is literally instant.
Built during the Golden Age of castle-building, it is among the finest examples of Celtic castles ever designed and built in Ireland in the 15th century. It has been described by a well-known Irish historian as being of atypical internal design and, of the historic medieval castles still standing in Ireland, it is virtually unequalled in its original intact external and internal preservation, despite the ravages of time.
Although many castles may seem the same from the outside (or from pictures), their internal comfort, authentic preservation and design can vary enormously, and the owners of this fine castle have painstakingly preserved, restored and maintained this gem with its battle-impenetrable walls up to 6 feet thick, spiral stone staircase, oak-beamed ceilings and flagstone floors which are all testament to the endurance of this great monument.
Passing through a museum is simply observing history passively, whereas when staying in this living museum you get to actually experience medieval times and thereby interactively coexist between a modern and medieval era! The place has been carefully furnished with antiques to maintain an authentic feeling yet has all modern day living comforts such as electrical appliances, bathrooms, and a top of the range renewable energy heating system.
Within the 15th Century Castle is the following accommodation:
· Four separate bedrooms; 3 double bedrooms with antique four-poster king-sized beds, and a family bedroom
· The Great Hall overlooks the countryside for miles; a very large inglenook open fireplace (fitted with turf/wood burning stove) along with sofa and armchairs, minstrels gallery overlooks from above.
· Dining Room (can seat up to 20+)
· Beautifully designed and fully fitted oak kitchen
· 2 bathrooms (one with a bath-tub & shower, the other with a large shower and each with sink and wc) & 1 other wc beside the kitchen
·
